On the 10th of July 2017, my very dear friend Christine passed away, suddenly.
She was a loving, peaceful, sensitive, intelligent, amazing woman.
Her death was a huge loss, for me for all her beloved ones. It was so painful to think how young and talented she was, what a great pedagogue the world was going to miss, how much her little son and her partner were going to miss her... The sadness was haunting me.
Then, as it happened many times in my life, art and creativity helped me get through the darkness. I had the idea to give Christine a place in my life by making a tribute to her in one of our games. And Abejarucos (Bee-eaters) was just the perfect one.
Christine's dad is a bee-keeper. She used to show pictures of her son in the bee-keeper suit along with her dad at the place where she was born and her parents still live.
She loved nature. She longed for summer holidays so she could be with her family and enjoy nature together. And Abejarucos is all about bees, respecting and enjoying nature, and being together.
Drawing Christine and her family for the rules and instructions of Abejarucos helped me to cope with her loss. The idea of capturing her peace and beauty, moments of happiness with her family, gave me strength for many weeks. The thought that her spirit will be present whenever some children are playing Abejarucos fills me with joy and peace.
Her love will live on

El 10 de julio de 2017 murió mi amiga Christine.
Christine era amor, una mujer sensible e inteligente que transmitía muchísima paz.
Su muerte supuso una pérdida terrible para mí y para todos sus seres queridos. Era tan duro pensar en lo joven que era, en el talento que tenía, en la pedagoga tan increíble que el mundo se iba a perder, en cuánto la iban a echar de menos su hijo y su compañero. Me hundí en la tristeza.
Pero entonces, como ha pasado tantas otras veces en mi vida, el arte y la creatividad me ayudaron a salir de la oscuridad. Tuve la idea de dar a Christine un nuevo lugar en mi vida haciéndole un homenaje con uno de nuestros juegos. Y Abejarucos era simplemente el juego perfecto para ello.
El padre de Christine es apicultor. Mi amiga solía enseñarme fotos de su hijo en el traje de apicultor junto con su abuelo, en el lugar donde nació y donde aun viven sus padres. Christine amaba la naturaleza. Estaba deseando que llegaran las vacaciones para estar con su familia y disfrutar de la naturaleza. Abejarucos es un juego sobre abejas, sobre el respeto y el disfrute de la naturaleza, y sobre permanecer unidos.
Dibujar a Christine y su familia en las instrucciones y reglas de Abejarucos me ayudó a soportar el dolor de su pérdida. La idea de capturar su paz y su belleza así como momentos de felicidad con su familia, me dio fuerzas durante muchas semanas. Cuando pienso que su espíritu estará allá donde haya un grupo de niños y niñas jugando a Abejarucos me llena de paz y felicidad.
Su amor vivirá para siempre.
